Be Not Rebellious

By: A Bess

“And He said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, unto this very day.” Ezekiel 2:3 (KJV)

Ezekiel was chosen by God to be a watchman and bring warning to the children of Israel, who while they were captives in Babylon, indulged in idolatry and refused to obey and conform to God’s commandments and statutes. This led God to pronounce impending judgement on the Israelites through Ezekiel using imagery, symbols and solemn messages to bring them to the understanding that it was time to make changes and return to God. Sadly, the Israelites continued to rebel, just as their forefathers before them, and their hearts were set unto rebelliousness.

Before God destroys a nation, He always sends warnings to people who has the time to seek for truth, accept it and submit to the Lord Jesus Christ. In the destruction of the world by flood, earth’s inhabitants received warnings for over one hundred years, but their hearts remained unchanged and embraced evil. So too, today, a warning is again going out to earth’s inhabitants to turn from falsehood, idolatry and disobedience to God’s word. “For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” — Ephesians 4:2.

The word of God should effect change within you, as the Holy Spirit reproves the world of sin. As Ezekiel continued to warn the exiles, so too are we warned today, to turn from our idolatrous ways and serve God, so that we can obtain the gift of eternal life through Christ’s righteousness.

Lord, I seek you daily.
Grant me Your divine strength and power so that I may be obedient to Your word and Your will.
