What Can God Say About You?

By: Marsha S. Francis

“For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord…” (Genesis 18:19 KJV).

Abraham was one Bible character who showed his loyalty to God by obeying His instructions without question. His relationship with God transformed his life, and this was evident in his family life and his relationship with those in his employ. He feared God and had been a true reflection of His character. He had integrity, was humble, hospitable, selfless, and showed compassion to everyone.

God placed great confidence in Abraham because of the close relationship they shared. As a result, when the Lord was about to pronounce judgement on Sodom and Gomorrah due to the iniquity of the citizens, He questioned: “Shall I hide from Abraham what thing which I do…?” (Genesis 18:17). His examination of Abraham’s life led to the indisputable response found in the scripture: “For I Know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” Thus, God revealed to Abraham His plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18); and with this information, Abraham was able to intercede on behalf of the people of these cities.

Reading the complete account of Abraham in the Bible produced some thought-provoking questions in my mind, which I would like to ask you: What is the quality of your relationship with God? If He has to consider revealing a secret to you, can he trust you with the revelation? Would He be able to say: I know him/[her]…? Or, should He permit you to undergo testing, just as he permitted Satan to try Job? Would He then declare, “There is none like [you] on the earth,” and that “[you] are upright, fear God, and shun evil?” (Job1:8).

The Lord is still seeking devoted followers who fear Him and who He can call His friends; Christians who seek to ensure that their family is nurtured in the fear and admonition of God. The Lord is looking for Christians who are willing to intercede on behalf of people who are enslaved by sin and darkness. Will your response be I will live for you, here I am Lord, send me?

As you go through the day and you interact with your family, friends, and others, let your life be a reflection of God’s character.
