Walking On Water is a compilation of 322 encouraging, motivating, life-changing, faith-fortifying, inspirational devotions that challenges readers to reflect. It is the prayer of the author that this treasury will impact and transform the lives of readers while providing daily refreshing. It can be read chronologically or topically to minister to the specific need of the reader.
Walking On Water challenges readers to walk in faith, walk in favour, walk in function and walk in freedom as emphasized by its four sections. Walking On Water is premised on Matthew 14:22-33. Verses 28-29 says: “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.” (NIV)
As we face challenges, we certainly need to know that we have a constant, faithful friend through it all. We too can walk on water, that is, do the impossible, because with God all things are possible.
Without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6). Readers are challenged therefore to pray for faith and to activate their faith by praying big, dreaming big, believing big, accomplishing big. When Peter stepped out on the water, He walked confidently while He kept His focus on Jesus; but when his focus shifted, he began to sink. To stay afloat through these unprecedented times we must walk in faith with our eyes focused on Jesus. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” (Psalm 37:23)
Anyone who chooses to walk in faith inevitably will walk in favour. Genesis 39: 21 says, “But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.” Regardless of your past and your present location, choose to walk with God in faith and He will not only order but prosper your steps.
The journey may not be easy but it will be worthwhile. Jeremiah 1:5 gives this divine declaration, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” 1 Peter 2:9 asserts, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” God has ordained each of us to walk in the function He has declared upon our lives. Allow no one to deter you from your function.
One who walks in faith, favour and function will experience the beauty of walking in freedom from past pain, guilt, sadness, sin, character flaws and negativity. “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV).
Walking on Water challenges readers to forget the “former things” which sought to limit them and let go of “the past” hurts, which sought to cripple their progress. While we cannot undo our past, we have the power and opportunity to:
- Focus with humility and gratitude on the countless miracles, blessings and success stories that God has allowed to manifest in our lives up to this point;
- Embrace the present;
- Look forward to the “new thing” God has in store for us in our futures;
- Accept our identity in God;
- Trust God’s tailor-made plans for us;
- Commit to life transformation;
- Decide to be better than we were yesterday;
- Determine to walk in the pathway God has carved out for us.
Read Walking on Water and you will experience a metamorphosis. There is an accompanying Journal (sold separately), which readers are encouraged to use to keep track of their journey as they too are empowered to figuratively walk on water!
